LABOUR DAY WEEKEND MELBOURNE HANGGLIDING CLUB EVENT:

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND MELBOURNE HANGGLIDING CLUB EVENT:
The Melbourne Hang gliding Club will be hosting a flying skills improvement weekend in central Victoria over the Labour day long weekend ( March 12, 13, 14). The main focus will be on ground towing skills but there will likely be opportunities for aerotowing and hill flying as well.  We are holding the event in central VIC as the paddocks in Boort are still wet and the farmers don’t want vehicles in them.

PURPOSE:
The weekend will give pilots the opportunity to gain (or finish off) their ground tow endorsements. For those with the endorsement, you will be able to practice those important skills prior to the easter comp. Everyone will get well needed approach and landing practice in a supportive environment. Obviously if conditions are good, no one will be surprised if some pilots disappear off over the horizon!

WHERE:
We will be based at Locksley airfield in central Victoria, 120km north of Melbourne. We will have access to tow fields up to 1.4km long for all wind directions within 20km of the airfield. People are welcome to come for day trips but remember we will be starting early and finishing late some days, so you are encouraged to stay over. The airfield has civilised camping facilities (hot showers, flushing dunnies and electric power and airconditioning in the club room). We will also probably have access to the large flight school office so we have somewhere comfortable in the evenings.

WHO IS INVITED:
Everyone is welcome to come along, not just MHGC members.

WHAT DO YOU NEED:
Minimum restricted rating, glider, harness, parachute preferred, tow release , (we have some to lend out), UHF radio/helmet microphone system which can be “locked on” in transmit mode, a willingness to learn and have fun. Contact me if you have any questions about equipment.

We will supply both a scooter tow system for low tows and a car tow system for high tows. You will be asked to contribute to the costs of the towing for the weekend (generally about $5/high tow), as well as a camping fee of $10/night if you stay over.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO PRIOR TO THE WEEKEND IF YOU ARE COMING:
Please let me know if you are coming so I can plan numbers and forward you information updates prior to the event.
