On Saturday May 1st, a group of MHGC pilots converged for a fly at our Club site at Flowerdale called “Three Sisters”. About 11 pilots turned up for an easy fly in ridge lift with wind of approximately 15 knots and the occasional thermal adding height. Staying up was not an issue and conditions were gentle enough for our first timers at the site flying in there Fun 190’s etc.
Scott Rawlings (MHGC Committee) arranged for Will Faulkner to send the SMS invitation out the day before and, early morning on the day, I confirmed the day by email on the MHGC Yahoo site (if you are a MHGC member and did not receive the SMS, please let me know).
The crew was made up of Scott Rawlings, Colin Jackson, David Bratt, Chris Dempsey, Joscef Patyi, Paul Tanner, Andrew Medew, Nick Abicare and myself from the MHGC. Kevin Grosser and Neil (recently from Newcastle now residing in Benalla) flew the site as our guests.
As a special treat for the club, Will Faulkner from RTS (Ride The Spiral) and fellow pilot member, elected not to fly but assist the club with some film footage of the day and also took photos for the re-development of the MHGC website. I extend a big thank you to Will for sacrificing his day to help the Club.
It was great to see 11 pilots flying our club site which is only a bit over an hours drive from Melbourne. Everyone launched, flew and landed safely, and with a couple of novice pilots flying the site for the first time. They were assisted by long term, advanced rated club members. In fact we had three current club safety officers on hand.
All in all it was a great Club day for the MHGC.
I encourage all pilots and in particular Novice (restricted) rated pilots to join us there the next time a club official announces that we believe the site to be “on” for the day.
Will Faulkner – Ride The Spiral – has put together the story and great footage of the day, for some great viewing click on the Video Posts tab and watch the video called May Day.
